Idola Phantasy Star Saga Announced for iOS / Android

Sega has announced the latest entry into the Phantasy series, titled [IDOLA: Phantasy Star Saga]! The game’s story takes place in a land called [Vandor], where the giant creatures known as [Idola] roam.

The evil god Dark Falz, sealed away during ancient times, begins its resurrection. Can civilization stand up and stop its return? And what is the true identity of the [Idola], regarded as kin to Dark Falz?

Stella, the story’s heroine, leads the [Aries Knights], an armed brigade that battles the Idola. She is shy in nature, concealing her face behind an iron mask.

Uly, another main character, lost his parents at a young age. Following a fateful encounter with Stella, he becomes head of the Aries Knights’ commando unit.

A Familiar Feeling

IDOLA: Phantasy Star Saga is a brand new game starring Uly (CV: Toshiki Masuda) and Stella (CV: Akane Fujita). This game was made as an entirely separate project, meaning the development of IDOLA will have no effect over the operation of PSO2.

Fans of the Phantasy Star series will recognize staples of previous works, such as [Idola], the ominous term that has come to be associated with the music of Dark Falz. Certainly the series most famous mascot, the cute yellow creatures known as Rappies, will appear on Vandor! In addition, if you look closely, you can even see a Mag floating next to Uly in the artwork.

Even Quna, the pop Idol from Phantasy Star Online 2, will be presented as a character in a pre-registration reward.

IDOLA: The Cash Content

Even though Phantasy Star Saga is free to play, the game will contain cash content in the form of a Gacha. This will allow players to obtain weapons and characters. However, outside of that, there will be other opportunities, such as in-game events, where you can obtain characters.

  1. So, I’m like the only human being with an open mind, it seems. As a Phantasy Star Deep Lore fan, I like being able to pick out little bits and pieces out of the announcement, leaving me cautiously optimistic for this. It can possibly be good; it likely won’t be, but I can hope.

    1. Side note, I wanna point out how this “supposedly shy” character is wearing a mask to hide her face while wearing a dress that would give a full ass and back shot if one attempted to bend down and pick something up. Hilarious.

    2. I’ve seen your very same comment under youtube video a few seconds ago 😀

Well…for some reason I am really disappointed…visual novel with horrible looking fights without some creepy animations that took them 1USD [100yen] to make.

I’d be much more happy to get Ep4 live version Kuna with TMG partner card for PSO2 instead [but ok…I’ll take x100 conqueror crests then]. And as for the game I’d prefer PS1-4 remake with awesome art-style [Well I can always keep hoping…or do it myself xD As they say: “if you want something done right you have to do it yourself”]

    3. Well, with that, I’ll just point out my observations: This game, if tying into an existing timeline, likely takes place AFTER PSIV, as this planet has a natural coastline and multiple moons, while also having grass assassins. It’s also possible to be on a space ship like in PSIII.

Could also be after PSZ, but less likely.

    4. We get kuna parner card in Idola….doesn’t it mean it’s in PSO universe?
As well as they use Rappy design from PSO instead of chirpers from PS. Am I right?

  2. This is a generic gacha garbage with low-key visuals hidden behind huge color explosions and non-existing one touch gameplay. There are hundreds of those on mobile already. Called it.
Good thing whales and waifu-people will buy whatever ridiculous microtransactions it has and fund continuous developing of PSO2 and Yakuza for me to enjoy. I am grateful.

  3. such a great concept….but such horrible execution, iam always the fan of dark falz and the odd term that is used for the themes when you fight them, but to deface the term as a mobile game. what happened to the good games that where phantasy star online ep 1 and 2 aswell as the older phantasy stars and phantasy star zero, they are dead all thats left is the husk. being masqueraded around by fucking otakus and anime overload. the dark creepy feeling of the ruins in phantasy star online, the undersea lab where a hero was dumped after being experimented on and turned into a monster, the newmans under the reign of a genocidal super computer on the moon that wiped out the entire planet in phantasy star zero. all gone…the darkers where a shoddy version of Dcell and dark creature but they still held up to an extent. in the end…phantasy star is dead until they have a new core rpg that they can pitch to the west like monster hunter world. sega has failed.

    1. PS was never dark or creepy. Only dark and creepy things about it were the textures and low poly models. And some passing themes like the ones you mentioned, but they never were the focus.
I’m not defending this generic mobage, but take your nostalgia goggles off. PSO2 has everything franchise had to offer before, and is much much more.
This project is just free money for sega.

    1. An actual Phantasy Star game that pushing half the theme of early Phantasy Star game? Wowzer, sure is a surprise!

  4. The sprite animation is good actually if compared to a lot of mobile game that i saw lately. I blame GBF and FGO for setting the bar so low. I’ll only play casually for the story and soundtrack anyway so the gacha doesn’t really matter unless they made it really P2W. Hope it won’t die prematurely like Mirrors Crossing.
