Phantasy Star Online 2: Sega Seeking Game Developers

Sega of Japan has announced today that they are seeking experienced game developers to work on Phantasy Star Online 2. They are seeking a client programmer, a planner, and a server programmer.

But I'm not any of those things, how can I help with development of the game? Fear not, now you can send a message directly to the Sega staff telling them anything you expect from Phantasy Star Online 2.

At this new website you can send any opinion, issue, and request you want for the game, but keep in mind Sega will only read them and can not reply back. If you are going to type a message, the first box is where you place your name, and the second box is the comment. Now I can't guarantee they have a translator on staff to read your comments.

Curtz is waiting to hear your PSO2 requests!

*Now obviously you need to know Japanese…

Client Programmer Xbox 360, PC, PS3

From Shougai, it appears the Client programmer needs to have experience with any of the following platforms; PC, PS3, or Xbox 360. Though there has not been an announcement for Phantasy Star Online 2 to utilize the other game consoles, it appears we may have a possible multi platform release.

Terada's Corner

Hm Terada's post felt like a Rapico post. Not that I'm complaining, makes it easier for me.

  • Terada talks about the Kizuna (Bonds Infinity Set) you get when pre-odering.
  • That set comes with product codes for Flowen and Rico's outfits, Dyla Bravas Mission Code, and Duman's signature weapons.
  • Talks about if  anyone can fill the requirements / recommendations  of the experienced game developer.
    • Game developer with at least 3 years experience.
    • PC/XBOX360/PS3, experience with developing on any of these systems.
    • Peer2Peer and Server Client communication models for network gaming
    • 3D Action, FPS Character control/management, and AI programming.
    • Network Game management.
    • Leader like quality.
  • Was Tylor's new design announced already?

Additional Comments

Here we go again, they need someone who's experienced with PC / PS3 / Xbox 360, but why? Wii isn't even on this experience list, isn't that interesting. Also does this mean we will have better First Person Shooter modes in Phantasy Star Online 2? Imagine RAcasts running in FPS mode and actually aiming and shooting. HALPSO.

Hold More than one Scape Doll in Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity

Today Sakai talks about Scape Dolls and their importance to game balance. (Which pretty much means, you guys who need more than 1 scape doll are noobs. JK!)

Scape Doll Debate

Scape Dolls are used to revive a player from battle. Based on the number of scape dolls a player can hold, it changes the importance of the battle greatly. The amount of scape dolls you could hold were different in each game.

  • Maximum Scape Dolls
    • Phantasy Star Universe: Ten
    • Phantasy Star Zero: Three
    • Phantasy Star Portable 2: One

By lowering the amount of scape dolls you can carry, Sakai feels that it puts more tension on the player. There were those who yelled how difficult the game was. On his own blog, he saw comments ranging from, "Please increase the number of scape dolls you can carry" and those who said, "Don't increase it."

For balancing the game, Sakai believes only 1 scape doll is suitable. But for those of you who thought the game was too difficult, he has a compromise. You now have a new ability called, "エスケープマスター" or Escape Master.

Escape Master エスケープマスター lets you use 2 scape dolls.

Escape Master takes up 3 ability slots and will be available by default. Yet equipping this ability will take up all your slots for those who started a new game and have a low type level. It might be useful to use this for those very difficult missions or you're just not used to the game mechanics and are dieing on the first story mission.

Now you can hold more than 1 scape doll.

If you were to pick up a scape doll that is above your maximum limit (with escape master ability or not), it is sent straight to the shared storage box. If you were to remove the Escape Master ability, the second scape doll is sent straight to the shared storage box.

How to Block with Rods in Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity

Terada's spoilers forced Sakai to write about how "guarding with the rod is godly". Today we'll talk about the functions on how one can block with rods.

Rod Blocking

First Sakai explains that some reasons why PSP2 users could not block with the rod was related to the amount of buttons and game balance.

When you do not set the back pallete for a rod, you are able to block and exact block. You must set up to 2 technics on a Rod in order to guard with it. Sakai recommends if you are using rods, to make an attacking rod and healing rod. During a Just Gaurd (Exact Block), you can also utilize a PP absorption Ability.

You can Just Guard with rods in Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity.

Battle Type Change

GRM Freak Ability?

In PSP2, whenever you change your battle type, it would unequip all your weapons and armor. For Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity, now your Line Shield  and units (Modules) stay put while changing battle types.

Additional Comments

Well I guess it's fine for Rods to work that way, but if it were me, I'd let you guard with 4 technics by holding R + Circle (or X depending on region) button. See that totally works, you can't change your palette anyway while you are guarding… Oh Well. And you guys totally see that GRMフリーク (GRM FREAK) that was slipped into the picture with no explanation.
