Phantasy Star Portable 2: Details about Shizuru, Braver Class, Customization, PM, and Demo

Sakai wants to clear up some details regarding the Phantasy Star Portable 2: Famitsu Article. It was previously analyzed at this site, so now we'll look into more details!

Mika and Shizuru

mika

Both Mika and Shizuru appear to be somehow connected by fate to an old civilization. You'll meet Mika at the end of chapter 1. Mika's voice actor is Sayaka Ohara, who provides a motherly gentle voice.

Shizuru on the other hand can be seen in the earlier stages blocking Emilia's path. He has silvery hair and with a very gaudy outfit. He has many secrets, in fact all main characters have secrets. Did you know Shizuru's nanotranser holds his swords?

Customize your battle type!

So, Sakai has reduced the amount of classes the game has to four. The newest class, braver, appears to be a mixture of hunter, ranger, and force, as can be seen by it's photon art cap.

This time you'll be able to customize each type as you see fit with "Type Extend" and "Ability Customize." In PSP1 and PSU, when you cleared a mission, you would gain mission points… Well in PSP2, the name has been changed to type points. As you amass these type points, they increase your type level. Based on your "type level" you gain "extend points" which customizes your class even further.

type extend

The "Type Extend" system will use your "extend points" to add additional weapon categories to your class. When you apply these points to your weapon category, you can either increase or decrease the grade. For instance you can upgrade a C rank claw to B rank or downgrade it back to C rank. So with this mix and match system, you could essentially apply an S rank sword weapon category to the Force class. However, keep in mind you are still limited by your photon art cap. In addition to this it is highly impossible to apply S rank to all weapon categories.

ability customize 3

"Abilities" allow you to customize your character even further by equipping special features. For example you can apply the HP boost or PP boost ability. There are about 100 different kinds of abilities. Abilities are limited by the slot system, since each ability costs a certain amount of slot points. You can only apply a limited amount. Some abilities will cost 1 slot as others may cost 3. As your type level goes up, there will be more ability slots available to you.

My Room Customize

my room

You'll be able to customize your room just like in Phantasy Star Universe. All the room items from Ambition of the Illuminus will be included in addition to some brand new ones. You'll be able to invite players into your rooms in Multi Mode and Internet Multi mode so you can show off your designer skills!

Partner Machinery

In addition to the 8 kinds of partner machinery in PSP1, PSP2 will increase this amount by adding two types, "Retro" and "Dragon".

Retro type

The Retro version is like a little retro robot guy who runs on the ground and attacks enemies.

dragon type

The Dragon version is like a dragon who floats and attacks enemies in a mysterious motion.

Tales of Dragon

Dragon Tails

PSO Dragon has a new battle strategy. If you are a hunter and braver, you focus on the tail… I heard the dragon loses it's balance and….

Demo

The demo will be available November 1st, at the JP PSN store. You can download it for free and play ad hoc or infrastructure mode. The demo needs PSP FIRMWARE 6.00 in order to play it! Please note that infrastructure mode (internet multi mode) will be available for a LIMITED TIME, the date it will end is December 3rd, 2009.

Infrastructure mode is by invitation only. Each individual who wants to play will receive a ticket, and Sega will hold a drawing and randomly select players . The announcement of who shall play internet multi mode will be provided at the official website.

You'll be able to import your character from PSU:AoI and Phantasy Star Portable 1. You must allow 370MB of space on your PSP memory stick. There will also be a special menu on the main screen which will differ if your demo was downloaded online, or you obtained the UMD version.

Phantasy Star Portable: PSP The Best

Phantasy Star Portable PSP the Best will feature 3 episodic movies chronicling the whole Phantasy Star Universe series. It first starts with the SEED INVASION, so that you may know more of the Gurhal Solar System and character history.  It's great for those new players of Phantasy Star Portable 2. Sakai says it was very hard to edit over 30 chapters of video and images together to make one coherent story.

Ethan, Laia, and Lumia will be narrating each episode. The narration voice work is entirely new providing you a sense of feeling and emotion by their respective characters. Also, voice acting is now provided to the script of Episode 3.

However, since Episode 3 has multiple endings (based on S ranking mind you..) certain parts will not shown in the ending of the PSU Chronicle movie.

As for the opening theme of Phantasy Star Portable 2, the "official theme" and the "PSU Chronicle PSP2 opening theme" will be slightly different. Sakai wants you to compare the two openings.

Phantasy Star Portable 2: Details of Playstation Network Product Code and Downloads

Sakai updated his blog post almost solely dedicated to the Product Code. Recently the box art for Phantasy Star Portable 2 was scanned and placed online which left Japanese and International communities concerned over the use of product codes. Sakai basically goes into detail on how this code will work out.

Little Wing License

Sakai wants you to think of the Product code similar to a "game key" for Phantasy Star Universe (JP). This "game key" allows you the right to play on their servers.

The Product Code is printed within the game manual. You will use this product code on the Playstation Network, to obtain your Little Wing License.

However, if you purchase Phantasy Star Portable 2 Digital Release on the Playstation Network, you will automatically receive your Little Wing License.

By inputting your Playstation Network Login ID and Password you can then sign onto the game servers and play "Internet Multi Mode."

As for the registration end date of 12/2/2010, (*December 2, 2010 : Our date format goes MONTH first then DAY) it does not mean that the game servers will shut down at that date, instead you must register your product code before this date.

Download Mission

Download missions are handled similarly in the way how Phantasy Star Portable 1 handled them, except with one special twist. If you connect to the game on Internet Multi Mode, you will automatically download the latest missions. So now everyone can enjoy the same missions at the same time. These missions are brand new and will be stored onto your PSP Memory Stick. (He makes a point as to how these downloads won't just unlock data of the PSP2 software… maybe they see how harmful this was to the PSU community.)

If you don't use Internet Multi Mode, you can download the missions from an official site.

Download Item

Players can additionally download items from the Playstation Store. There will be free download items as well as cash items. He plans on making the prices as low as possible, but he can not reveal the prices at this time. Most collaboration items can be obtained either through inputting a pass code or downloaded from the Playstation Store for free. There will not be any items with extreme strength and power at the store itself.

Downloaded Items will be stored on the Playstation Portable Memory Stick. If a player does not have the same downloaded item in memory, it will instead be replaced by an existing item. (Think of this as Playstation 2 users for Ambition of Illuminus Supplemental update, Ps2 users can not see many of the new items and instead will only see a generic weapon instead)

He will also not allow the sales of items that can change game balance, this includes consumable items, meseta, and boosting of experience value.

As for you collectors who wants to fill the item and weapon "illustration books" within the game, the download items will not affect the completion rate. So you can still attain 100% completion rate without purchasing or downloading any item from the store!
