Getting Your First Mag

Koffie

In order to acquire a Mag, a character must reach level 5 and complete the Mag License Client Order given by Koffie. She is located at one of the Quest Counters in the Gate Area lobby.

pso2

The マグライセンス授与申請試練 (Mag License Application) order will unlock at level 5. Click on the left button in the popup message after selecting the order to accept it.

fongalf

Fangulf are the bigger wolves of the forest.

The objective of this client order is to deliver one [フォンガルフの頭角] item. These can be dropped by Fangulfs upon defeat, which are primarily located in the Forest field of planet Naberius. Upon completion of the order, return to Koffie to receive experience points and your very first Mag!

Additional Mags cost ARKS Cash and can be purchased from the AC Store.

Raising a Mag

Feeding and Leveling

[/notification]

In order to grow your Mag, you'll need to feed it various items. As you feed it, its stats will grow depending on the type and rarity of the item. Your Mag's stats add to your own, and can be crucial for equipping higher level equipment. Many players suggest raising a "pure" Mag, focusing solely on a single ATK stat. The Braver and Bouncer classes — being a mix of two ATK types — primarily depend on the DEX stat, however.

For example, a striking weapon will raise the Mag's striking and dexterity stats. To avoid leveling dexterity, you'll need to find an item that will lower dexterity while raising striking. A simple Monomate will do the trick in this case. Dimates and Trimates will work with ranged and tech, though there are more potent items.

If you accidentally level the wrong skill, don't fret too much. There is a Mag Level Down Device at the EXCube Exchange Shop that will lower a skill by one level. The price is steep, however, at 50 EXCubes. Otherwise you can purchase a reset device from the AC Store.

Evolution

[/notification]

The Mag's overall level will raise with each stat level gain, up to a maximum of 200. At certain levels, your Mag will evolve, taking on a new appearance. The form it takes depends on its highest stat, and affects the type of attack it uses in battle and its Photon Blast. But more on those later.

The first evolution takes place at level 30, with four possible variations. The second evolution occurs at level 100, with three to four variations for each of the first evolution's.

Click below to see all the evolution possibilities and what they require.

Energy

[/notification]

Mags need energy to perform actions during quests, indicated by a percentage bar on its stats screen. You'll need to feed the Mag in order to raise its energy level. Up to three items can be fed at 0% to fill the bar. You won't be able to feed the Mag again until its energy drops below a certain percentage. The energy level will gradually decrease over time, even while you're offline. However, at level 200 a Mag's energy will not decrease unless you're logged in.

[notification type="alert-warning" close="false" ]

Stats

[/notification]

When choosing an item to feed your Mag, you can see how it will affect its stats by hovering over the item. As mentioned before, your Mag's stats will also affect your character's stats.

  • 打撃支援 ║ Striking Support (S-ATK)
  • 射撃支援 ║ Range Support (R-ATK)
  • 法撃支援 ║ Tech Support (T-ATK)
  • 技量支援 ║ Ability Support (DEX)

Auto Action

[/notification]

An Auto Action is unlocked when your Mag reaches its second form. These are the attacks a Mag will perform automatically during battle. The action it learns is dependent on the form it takes. There are many different actions available, covering striking, ranged, and tech attacks. Auto Actions can be changed with special devices you can trade for at the EXCube Exchange Shop.

Once your Mag has reached level 200, it will unlock an SP Auto Action. These special moves will only activate when a boss enemy is nearby. There are four SP Auto Actions, including:

  • SP Striking / Clobber: Performs a series of slashes that surround the player.
  • SP Ranged / Vulcan: Rapidly fires multiple shots at an enemy.
  • SP Tech / Focus: Reduces the player’s Technic charging times.
  • SP Dexterity / Iron Wall: Summons a shield that reduces damage from enemies.

These can also be swapped with devices available at the EXCube Exchange Shop.

[notification type="alert-warning" close="false" ]

Trigger Action

[/notification]

Trigger Actions are supportive abilities that a Mag performs under certain circumstances. They can heal the player, provide invincibility, produce healing items, and even revive you. Each type of Mag starts off with a different action. Mags begin with three slots for Trigger Actions, and can obtain up to eight through leveling and unlocking them with a special device.

The fourth slot is unlocked at level 30, and the fifth at level 100. Slots six through eight require the Mag Support Extend Device, available only through the AC Scratch.

Using Mag Devices

Mag Devices are special items that can serve to speed up the feeding process, change auto/trigger actions and the Photon Blast, or even transform the appearance of a Mag! Devices can be acquired from the AC Scratch, exchange shops, or Emergency Trial clear rewards.

There are five main categories of Mag Devices: Evolution, Support, Food, Action, and Photon Blast.

  • Evolution Device: Transforms the appearance of a Mag.
  • Support Device: Teaches a Trigger Action to a Mag.
  • Food Device: Increases the stats of a Mag.
  • Action Device: Changes the Auto Action of a Mag.
  • Photon Blast Device: Changes the Photon Blast of a Mag.

Click below for a listing of these devices and the effects they provide.

Evolution Device

[/notification]

Evo Device Knight Gear

Evolution devices are purely cosmetic in nature, allowing you to transform the appearance of your Mag — once they've reached level 100 — to better suit your style. There are many types to choose from and are regularly released in AC Scratches and as event rewards. Several can be found across the game's various shops.

Mag Form Change Pass Menu

PSO2 keeps track of any evolution devices you've used on a Mag, allowing you to revert back to them using the Mag Form Change Pass available at the Recycle Shop. This saves you the trouble of having to acquire the potentially costly device again. This does not include the default Mag forms, however, so be warned.

To use the pass, click on the [tooltip type="link" link="" target="_self" tooltip="マグ形態変更パスを使う" style="top" ]Use Mag Form Change Pass[/tooltip] option in the Mag Menu. Choose the form you'd like to change to and select the first option in the popup. You can mark your favorites while you're at it with the second option.

Click below for a complete listing of all the Evolution Devices available.

[button style="btn-info btn-lg" icon="glyphicon glyphicon-share" align="left" iconcolor="#ffffff" type="link" target="false" title="View the Evolution Device Database" link="https://www.bumped.org/psublog/pso2-jp-mag-evolution-devices-database/"]

Photon Blasts

photon blast

Photon Blasts are powerful summons that unlock once your Mag reaches its second form (Lv.30). They must be added to the sub-palette in order to use them during quests. Just click on an empty area in the palette, and select the second tab to add a button that triggers your Photon Blast.

The Photon Blast can't be activated right away, however. You must wait for the PB Gauge to fill. Once it's ready, you'll notice the sphere beside your HP bar begin glowing.

There are five types of Photon Blasts, each with three different forms. These are indicated by the suffixes, "Proi, Imera, and Nifta." Each of these sub types behaves differently when summoned. The blast you initially receive depends on the type of Mag you've raised. If you're unhappy with the Photon Blast you've been given, you can replace it using one of the PB Devices available at the EXCube Shop.

Chaining Photon Blasts

[/notification]

PB Chain

When multiple players trigger a Photon Blast in close proximity, they will create a PB Chain. The range of your blast is indicated by a glowing blue ring around your character. In order to chain, the other rings must overlap with at least one other. Be sure to hold down the Photon Blast button to allow other players adequate time to chain. A successful chain will increase the power of each blast, and allow them to remain on the field for a longer period.

Intro to Client Order (Mags)

Throughout the story you'll come across several NPCs who will ask specific requests for you. We'll outline what you need to do to unlock these orders.

To get a mag license you must first be level 10. Afterwards go to the west quest counter to find Koffee コフィー. Select the second entry to access her client order. We recommend not doing this Client Order first, instead you should try Koffee's third Client Order. It will make it much easier to find Rockbears.

Coffy has three Client Orders (an additional one has to be unlocked)

  • 1. マグライセンス授与申請試練 (Mag License)
  • 2. 武器携帯数拡張申請試練・I (Weapon Palette Expansion)
  • 3. 自由探索許可申請・森林  (Forest Exploration Request)
  • 4. 探索許可申請試練・I(Search Request for *Caves*)
  • 5. 自由探索許可申請火山洞窟 (Caves Exploration Request)

Please note the 4th and 5th Client Order on this list will not show up in the same order in game. If you want to get the Caves missions to unlock you need to do the fourth client order. If you want the Caves free field quest to unlock, do the 5th client order. Please read here.

Click on the first one to start the Mag License, in the window popup choose the left button はい (Yes). to start the client order.

Mag License requires you to get 2 Rock Bear Horns.

  • ロックベアの角の調達x 2 (Two Rock Bear Horns)

Rockbears will randomly show up in the following missions:

  • (ダーカー調査:森林 Darker Investigation)
  • (森林探索 Forest Exploration)

Forest Exploration is a free field quest, but you can't do this quest until you do Coffy's third client order:

  • 自由探索許可申請・森林  (Forest Exploration Request)

The Rockbear horns may rarely drop and it will take a while to acquire them. When you acquire two of them, return to Coffy. Click on the Client Order with the green symbol. Click the left button Yes (はい) to report back to her.

[Important Client Order List]

 Matter Board

After you finish the first quest, you'll be in the Gate Area lobby. Look for an elevator with a bronze symbol near the center of the lobby to transport down to the Shop Area. In that lobby you'll meet up with Shion who gives you the Matter Board.

The first Matter you must complete wants you to find a ガンスレイヤー Gun Slayer from the Udan enemy. To start the matter, click on the globe and press はい.

Click the quest icon (the spinning globe) and select "マターボード" to access the Matter Board.

When you play regular quests, key items will drop in a gold aura. Once you pick it up and clear the quest you can select the next matter.

When you play B-2 on the Matter Board. Start the quest ザウーダン討伐, it is the first mission in the quest list. Look for a floating tablet like in the screenshot above. This event happens in the first block (Area 1).

When you approach the tablet for B-2 it should say "エコーは何所だ?" (Where's Echo?) in the top left corner. If it doesn't you'll have to restart the quest and try to find it again.

When you fill the two orange orbs on the Matter Board, head to the shopping area to meet up with Shion. This will unlock the Episode 1 Story Quest for you.

 [ Matter Board Quest List]

Block Changer and My Room Access

When you are in the lobby, there are several "channels" you can transfer to meet your friends. This is the Teleporter that lets you change blocks. When you go inside press the E key to access it. Here you can change blocks and transfer to your room. The entry on the top will let you go to your room.

 Starting a Quest

In the gate area, you can start a quest.

  • クエスト一覧から選ぶ Choose Quests
  • クエスト中のパーティーに参加する Join a party in a quest
  • クエストカウンターを出る Leave the Quest Counter

When you select the first option, the next window has you select a type of quest. Usually you will see Arks Quest, but sometimes throughout the day you may see Emergency Quests.

When you see the quest list menu you can do the following options by clicking on a quest name

  • すぐに出発する Immediately Start a Quest
  • クエスト中のパーティーに参加する Join a party in a quest.
  • クエストレコードを見る View Quest Record

If you choose the top option, you'll see a new window appear as in the screenshot below:

If you click on the screenshot above, we've filled in the essential areas you should know. However underneath the password field are two options, these options are really intended for multi player quest parties.

  • パーティーへ参加のみ制限 (Password Protect your party only)
  • 他のパーティーからのマルチプレイ要求も制限 (Password Protect other parties as well)

By default the top option will be ticked on. This means that only your party will be password protected. When you reach to a multiparty area, you will see other parties. However by ticking the bottom option, everyone joining your multiparty quest will need to know the password.

 Character Menu

Now you can click on other players to open up the Character Menu. The easiest way to do so is to press the ESC button so the main menu is open and use your mouse to click on a character. With this menu you can perform the following functions:

  • ウィスパーチャットを送る Whisper Chat
  • パーティーに招待する Invite to Party
  • グッジョブを送る Send Good Jobs
  • アイテムトレードを申し込み Request Item Trade
  • キャラクター情報を見る View Character Information
  • アークスカードを見る View Arks Card
  • ブラックリストに登録 Blacklist
  • フレンド登録に申し込み Friend Request
  • マイルームへ移動 Go to their room.
  • モノマネ Mimic

 Tekker Shop Location

The Tekker Shop is located in the Shop Area, on the second level of the rotunda. Bring your ?スペシャルウェポン to her and she can appraise it for a price.

 Direct Chat Mode

Direct chat allows you to type on the keyboard immediately instead of controlling your character. This mode is useful for people with Gamepads. To turn this feature on and off press the scroll lock key. Otherwise press the gear icon in the main menu, and the third entry to reach the options page.

In the topmost category 基本設定 (Basic Settings), expand it and look for Communication Settings コミュニケーション設定. The top entry is for Direct Chat.

  • 使用する Turn On
  • 使用しない Turn Off.

 Matter Board Goals

To advance the story you need to complete various matters. Each matter in its description will have a Letter and Number combination. For example, in this screenshot B-2 is listed. When we refer to (Area 1) in this list, it means it happens in the first block. Matter Boards highlighted in red are random and may require multiple retries before they drop.

PSO2 Closed Beta Tomorrow

Sakai updated this morning with a recap briefing of the closed beta. There are some changes though. As always, I guess nothing is really set in stone at this point.

There's going to be 5 ships to choose from when the Beta starts. Even though you'll see Ship 6 through 10, those aren't available. Unlike previous games, you can't move your character to different ships, so please choose a ship you and your friends will play on. When you want to make another character on a different ship, you need to purchase the right to do so with Arks Cash.

When you start the game you can play the tutorial. Then afterwards you get the Matter Board to start your story.

Even though there are some elements that require Arks Cash, you can still play the majority of the game for free. Like for example, in PSU you would only be able to access your storage box in your room (My Room requires Premium Course). However in PSO2, the storage box is accessible even from the Camp Ship and Arks Lobby.

You could read the visiphone from the Arks Lobby too. It now displays the weapon collection like from the Phantasy Star Portable  series.

You can also do Client Orders, which give you various rewards and experience points. (Try these out too because it will be slower to level up in the closed beta compared to previous tests.)

You can enjoy the majority of the game for free without the need to purchase Arks Cash. But for those who'd like to use Arks Cash, there's a "Premium" pack you can purchase.

The Premium Set includes 30 days access to open your My Room/My Shop, Expanded Storage, and Item Trader functions. You can purchase some of these options individually too. Having the premium set allows you access to an area called the Premium Block.

You should also try out the Friend Partner system that lets you use your friend's character. It will even use the phrases that your friend registered as Auto Words. Only registered friends can be used as Friend Partners. Don't forget that you can collect FUN points by doing quests with them.

Based on alpha test 2 feedback, they improved it so that you can meet other parties easily. (You can set participation limits for Multi Party Areas if you want.) So even if you are soloing you can meet other parties too.

Now there's also a ranking menu to see how you compare in the "Interrupt Event Ranking," there's even a weekly ranking too.

Then there's FUN! You can collect FUN by complimenting other players by telling them "Good Job" through a menu. With the FUN you collect you can play the FUN Scratch Gacha. You can win various items.

In the main menu, look for a shopping cart icon. It lets you access Arks Cash shop and scratch features.

Look for a scratch terminal in the lobby too.

Now it was announced that players would receive 10,000 ARKS Cash in the Closed Beta. Since they decided that the price for AC content would be as low as 10AC, they will distribute 1000 AC instead. You should be able to enjoy enough ARKS cash content with this amount.

Now there are some changes to things that were previously mentioned. Before there were going to be 2 types of ARKS Scratch, one with (Various Items) and the other with just (Clothes Only). In the closed beta test, the clothes only version won't be implemented, but instead they will have 2 types of Arks Scratch that feature various items.

You'll be able to purchase costume color variations in the Closed Beta. By the time the official game comes out, you can purchase new costumes and they have plans to bring back the (Clothes Only and Various Items) Arks Scratch.

Sakai also posted the list of Alpha Test 2 to Closed Beta changes, but the complete list will be posted here at a later time.
