Playstation Network Restoration

Kazuo Hira has just announced Sony is beginning to roll out restoration to the Playstation Network service. The first phase of restoration includes signing on to Playstation Network and Qrocity services with online gameplay on the PS3 and PSP, including access to services like Netflix and Hulu. This phase also includes friends list, chat functionality, trophy comparison, and Playstation Home.

Once you sign onto the Playstation Network, either through the console or through validated email address, you will be asked to change your password. Sony plans to restore services to Playstation Store in the future.

Sony's Welcome back program offers the following games for the US for free.

  • United States + Europe "Welcome Back!"
    • LittleBigPlanet (PSP)
    • ModNation Racers
    • Pursuit Force
    • Killzone Liberation

You have up to thirty days after the Playstation Store is up to claim two out of the four free games listed above.

Japan's Announcement

Meanwhile in Japan, the service restoration announcement was split into two distinct regions. They listed that the service restoration as previously stated is only for the European and American regions. The Japanese  and Asian regions themselves will have to wait "a few more days" before their restoration information is announced.

Yoko Littner outfit for Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity

Terada showed a sneak peak of a new outfit for Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity. It's based off of Yoko Littner from Gurren Lagann. No expected release date was revealed considering the Playstation Network is still down.

Final Guide and Materials Collection

Two books are expected to release in the future. The first book, Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity Final Guide, is expected to release on 5/30/2011. The next book, Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity Infinity Guide + Setting Materials Collection, is expected to release sometime in July. As for the latter book, I believe this will show concept designs of various things in PSP2i (like characters, weapons, etc?) as well as contain a complete guide for the game.

Become Nagisa-chan

With Otaku events coming up in the summer, Galaxy is selling a cosplay outfit for Nagisa. Interestingly you can choose your size and gender for the outfit. So I guess I'd be in the XL category?

Phantasy Star Online 2: Setting Concepts

Today Sakai talked about the "World" of Phantasy Star Online 2. This is more of a conceptual post but it clears up some things. Here's what I got so far.

Phantasy Star Online 2 Setting Concept

PSO2 Concept Images placed on the wall.
More images will be placed on there later on.

We said several times that this time the stage is not set in Ragol. However, in P-Spec we mentioned how there might be some connection to Ragol somewhere in the world. This "space fleet"? What is their purpose for traveling through space. The name of the ship, "Oracle" has a significant meaning. Pay attention to this. What about the "stars", what about these "unknown planets" what could this be?

In addition, players are not "Hunters" nor "Guardians" nor "Little Wing".  The text in the promo movie said  "The Arks" . (Please keep in mind this Arks is not related to the Arkz from PSO Episode 3)

The existence of this "enemy" that is hostile to players; This adventure that takes place in Infinite space, what awaits us here?

And within the promo movie, new costumes were drawn in PSO's likeness. We aimed at having a new setting  coexisting with some PSO nostalgia. Now certainly there will be character creation. All the characters you saw in the screenshots were made in Character Creation. Because recent online games have you create characters even to the finest detail, we are working hard here too.

And the screenshots, it seems people were shocked when they saw it.  The impression gave off this "airy feeling" or "realistic" quality.  Even though many of our staff members weren't from the PSO era, many of  the visual elements are different from Gurhal. The screenshots were to give off the impression of a new, PSO-like game. We wanted viewers to feel "adventure" and if you saw the promo video and you felt that, then our goal has succeeded.

As a reminder, we have said many times that what you've seen so far is only one part of the whole picture. There's more information to be revealed in the future, and we can't show what that is at the moment until it's ready

PSO2 is on the PC platform, with that you can expect jam packed fun! I think now I can increase all of your expectations! Remember the deadline to submit your alpha test applications is coming up on May 20th, so get those entries in!
