Phantasy Star Universe: Our Item Design Contest 2010 Favorites

Hello, today we highlight our favorite Item Design Contest items for 2010. The designs SEGA selects as winners will move on to become actual items in Phantasy Star Universe and Phantasy Star Portable 2 and Infinity. The clothes and weapons selected below has nothing to do with the ones SEGA will choose. We are just merely highlighting the ones we like. These designs are owned by their respective owners and Sega.

Sega plans to reveal the winners sometime in the future. There's also another Item Design contest going on at Nico Nico which we'll cover later on.

This time we are picking the final week's entries. You can view our 1st and 2nd week picks in this previous post.  You can also add comments to the outfits below or recommend an outfit that doesn't appear on this list.

Clothes and Parts

Save This Life!  {Selected Finalist}

So take my hand, We need to SAVE THIS LIFE!

Save This Life is a medic outfit that includes accessories of a stethoscope, a rock climber's rope harness, and boots. Rescue Squad and Military color variations also included. The Nanotranser is located on the shoulder, and the line shield  is located at the jacket's tails and on the knee caps.

Ricardo says, "Rescue me!"

Tyreek says, "That looks quite new age modern."

Dyne says, "That's rad. Love the helmet options! Paramedic Gear."

Centillion Frame

Throwing  Cast proportions out the window, this Centillion Frame makes for a very unique boxy look.  The line shield runs across the body as parallel lines.

Ricardo says, "This thing looks like it wants to run you over."

Zorin says, "You gonna get raped!"

Western Girl {Selected Finalist}

Yes, I know, we already have a cowgirl outfit, but this costume comes equipped with a cowgirl hat and a gun harness. The Nanotranser is located as a butterfly motif on the waist area. The Line Shield color is located as a pattern on the shoulders, the butterfly logo, and the necklace.

Dyne says, "I like this because it's not ridiculously over the top detailed like PSU outfits were. "

Ricardo says, "They need to upgrade that person to main character status. I imagine a rival for Chelsea."

Tyreek says, "It's rough, its sexy, its… Battle Ready. Make it happen!"

Slide to Nights

A sleek and stylish uniform made as three separate parts. The line shield follows the design of the vest itself including the belt, and lines around the pant's bottom.

Ricardo says, "It's like executors uniform, but i like the professionalism and modernism this outfit gives."

Zorin says, "This could even be gender neutral. Looks professional and slick."

Dimension Butler {Selected Finalist}

An outfit for that everyday girl with a kawaii sense of fashion. Dimension Butler comes with a plush toy and the line shield flows down the sides and center of the jacket. The hoody gives off that neko style.

Ricardo, "It's that hoody that makes it win."

Zorin says, "A whole new meaning to the word 'catsuit'."

Honorable Mentions
Tattoo TattooSet

The purpose behind this muscle bruiser outfit is to show off different tattoos in each color variation. This includes tattoos of the nanoblast pattern, Moatoobian text, and chest hair. The line shield is located on the pant's leg and on the belt.

Honorable Mentions
Fallen AngelV GStyle

A gothic lolita outfit with angel wings. Tightly buckled from head to toe with black garters. The line shield is located within the angel wings as a logo.

PSPo2i: CG Defaults [Part 1]

Another quick post today, Captain T is absent today so Sakai is filling in.

Yesterday, Sakai received many comments on why the Beast doesn't appear in the Main Visual. He responds that the point of the Main Visual was to show 4 characters defeating an enemy, considering you only have 4 players in a party. Unfortunately the beast had to get cut out because now they have 5 races. Plus the main visual had to depict the four battle types, hunter, ranger, force, and braver. So you see there was no more room for the Beast.

Default CG Outfits Part 1

Human Male with his Daggers "Twin Carietta"

Newman Male, HE is not a girl…

The Angelic Female Cast.

The Male Duman Bullfighter.

Now that this game has both default outfits from PSP2 and PSP2 Infinity, you can choose whichever default you want. For those who will import your PSP2 character, you will see the new default outfits in the Clothes and Parts shop for cheap prices. Isn't life grand?

Next time Sakai plans to reveal the rest of the CGs, but @rapico tweeted one already.

  • The 2010 Item Design Contest is over, but there's soo many to choose from…

PSPo2i: The Main Dragon

Today Sakai talked briefly about his beloved art team, Akikazu Mizuno and Mitsura! They are the ones behind the major artworks in this game.

Sakai revealed the "Main Visual." (However, we saw this already on this blog when Gamespot JP displayed the box art. Teehee~) Anyway the point of the main visual is to show 4 players cooperating to defeat an oversized enemy.

The design team uses an art system that was cleverly named after them called 「MIZUN/O」 and 「MuTSu/uRA」. (But I'd just call this Photoshop amiright?) Akikazu Mizuno will continue to draw event scenes in Infinity's Episode 2.  Mitsura on the other hand was responsible for designing the main visual.

First they extract in game models and place them within a pose. Mitsura then draws over them creating a stylish CG-like scene.

The monster shown in the Main Visual is called ディラ・ブレイヴァス or Dyla Bravas. He's a large Stateria who is supposed to protect a foothold. However, he went berserk attacking various places.

Dyla Bravas attacks with an electrical shock and can even generate a tornado. At the end of October, if you reserve the game at participating shops in Japan, you can also receive a poster featuring this dragon!
