Shared Storage Box Increased in Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity

Hi guys, quick early morning update. Yesterday Sakai asked if your Shared Storage Box was full, today he made an announcement regarding that.

The total item count for Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity is around 3000, but where are you going to store it all?

It appears when creating this game, there is a a limited amount of memory for storing data. If the game exceeds this memory limit, it can come to a complete stop. When you increase the size of the Shared Storage box, it also increases the size of the save data. So due to the magic of programming, the Shared Storage Box capacity has increased from 1000 to 2000.

He also mentions there's a way you can stop selling items accidentally, (which we all know as the item lock feature.)

Additional Comments

You see them squiggly lines at the bottom right corner? It says Episode 1. Could this mean portions of the game are separated from each episode?

  • Phantasy Star Portable 2 Japan has put up a notice today on how they will be banning players who violated the terms of conduct through hacking and user misconduct.

PSU Japan

I haven't even looked at PSU Japan in quite some time. They are getting DLC items that were previously exclusive for PSP2 Japan. Also expect to see a PSO10th Anniversary event down the line. Click for larger images.

Rebirth System in Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity

Post Extended!

Today we'll talk about the Rebirth or Reincarnation system. It allows you to rebirth your character to level 1 with bonus stats you set! Afterwards we outline the points found in the latest Dengeki magazine about Infinity Missions.

Rebirth System

The Rebirth system is activated at level 50 at the type counter. Your character uses a certain amount of bonus points that they can set to specific parameters like ATK, ACC, MND, and even create an Extend Code. Don't worry, you don't have to use up ALL your bonus points. They will carry over to your next reincarnation.

In the screenshot above you have 100 Bonus points. The player then uses up the points by assigning them to parameters like HP, PP, etc..

You may use the rebirth system as many times as you want, but the parameters themselves will have a cap. Sakai says it will take a considerably long time before you reach each cap. Please keep in mind that you can not change your race, sex, clothes, or name at this counter.

Someone who just used the Rebirth System in Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity.

After you're finished setting the bonus points, a flashy effect surrounds your character and you return to level 1 with the bonus stats you set.  Your type level also remains the same, for example, if you are a level 80 human and your hunter level was 20, after reincarnation you return to level 1 with hunter level 20.  But the rebirth system has more tricks hidden up it's sleeve.

Each time you use the rebirth system, your type level cap can also increase while unlocking new abilities. The type level cap you get is based on what level you reincarnated from. Also the maximum number of ability slots also increases, you can even achieve 12 slots.  For those who played Phantasy Star Portable 2 and are worried about how long it takes to reach a new type level. You now have a new Mission Code with a special effect titled "戦闘タイプポイントアップ" or "Increase Battle Type Points" where it can boost the amount of type level points you receive at the end of the mission. For more information about Mission Codes, read here.

So please utilize the Rebirth system as it will be the key to surpassing the new mission difficulty rank of Infinity! Your friends can also see the amount of times you used this system as well on your partner card.

Additional Questions

Sakai answered some user submitted questions in regards to the Rebirth system. Let's take a look at some of them shall we.

In regards to any racial differences between the parameter caps and stats… Let's say you are going to carry over 50PP through the rebirth system.

A Newman starts out with 250PP  >  After Reincarnation > Newman Base PP is 300PP

A Human starts out with 200PP > After Reincarnation > Human Base PP is 250PP

(This still allows for the stat difference between each race to apply even when you reach the cap of a particular parameter. Since at the end of the day, the Newman  will  always have higher PP than the Human. But of course the player of one race can surpass a player of another race before they reach the cap, that is until that other player catches up. )

In regards to Weapon and Armor minimum levels… Of course if you were using a weapon that has a minimum level of 90, after you rebirth, you can no longer use it since you are at level 1. Thankfully, Infinity now has more weapons of C and B rank, but one should not throw away useful low ranking weapons. Sakai added a special note though, he states, ""Eh? Your shared storage is full? We'll talk about that later on."

Suppose you get too strong for a mission through the rebirth system… Try out the new mission rank called Infinity. It is even more brutal than S rank missions.

In regards to the Battle Type Cap…  When you use the rebirth system, the battle type caps for Hunter, Ranger, Force, and Braver also increases at the same time.  Before when I talked about how the type level cap you get is based on what level you reincarnate as, Sakai used this as an example. Please note, the following example may change in the final version.

A level 200 character who rebirths, will have his type level cap at 50.

A level 100 character who rebirths, will have his type level cap at 35.

When you rebirth and increase your type level cap, you are allowed to add the brand new abilities to your low level character. (So when you are type level 30, then reincarnated and through game progress you achieve type level 31, you can add the new ability that is available for that type level.)

Infinity Missions

In the latest Dengeki Magazine, Shougai PSO updated about the inner working on how Infinity missions work. Infinity Missions allows one to create their very own missions.

  • Infinity Missions
    • You can create an infinity Mission through an item called a Mission Code
    • Each mission code has "mission data" which controls different aspects of the mission.
    • The data contains what field, monster, boss, and special effects.
    • The special effects can change aspects like; lower the monster's HP; fire weapons drop easily; drop rate increase; exp increase, type point increase.
    • Bring a Mission Code to a new counter called the "Code Counter"
    • The Party leader can set up the mission for others in the party to participate.
    • The Mission codes do not alter regular missions in any way.
    • You can select C/B/A/S/Infinity rank at this counter.
  • Special Effects
    • Mission Codes hold special effects that can be applied to the mission
    • Special effects can contain a Level, just like how weapons have status effect levels.
    • (For Example: Drop Rate Increase LV3)
    • You can not apply the same special effects at the same time.
    • (For example you can not apply two drop rate increase mission codes)
  • How to Acquire mission Codes
    • Through Friend Search (Passive Communications)
    • Through Mission Clear Rewards
    • (These are only an example, there may be more methods in the future…)
  • Trading Mission Codes
    • By using "Friend Search" you can trade mission codes
    • (When you trade, the sender keeps the mission code item.)
    • (So you and the receiver will now have the same mission code.)
    • It's possible to trade with Online Multiplayer (but there's a catch!)
    • After you trade mission codes, the sender gets a "Synthesis Point"
    • This "Synthesis Point" can be used up when creating a mission code. [explained below]
    • If you trade a mission code with someone online, you do not get the "synthesis point"
    • These synthesis points are for those who trade with Friend Search (AKA PASSIVE COMMUNICATIONS)
  • How to MAKE a mission code
    • You can make a mission code at the code counter.
    • When you create mission codes, other mission codes are also produced.
    • The first option to create a mission is through a selection called the "Base Mission"
    • The "Base Mission" controls what field the Infinity Mission is going to use.
    • The next option is the "Plus Mission," this controls what  Boss the Infinity Mission is going to use.
    • After you set the Plus Mission and Base Mission, you will use up your "synthesis point"
    • (If you don't have enough synthesis points, you can't create the mission…)
  • Synthesis Points
    • When you create a mission code, you will use up a synthesis point.
    • There will be other methods of obtaining a Synthesis Point.
    • A synthesis point is added when you play Infinity Missions
    • A synthesis point is added when you trade mission codes through Friend Search (Passive Communications)
    • Only the person who sends the mission code will get the synthesis point, the receiver does not.
  • The Code Counter
    • The Code Counter has the following options in it's menu:
    • ミッションコード一覧  [View Mission Codes] – Information Unavailable…
    • ミッションコードセット [Mission Code Set] – See 100 different kinds of mission code you collected.
    • ミッション合成 [Mission Code Synthesis] – Where you create Mission Codes
    • プラネットトレジャー情報 [Planet Treasure Information] –  Information Unavailable…

PSPo2i: Hyuga's New Design? + Passive Communications

Today Captain T updated and in his usual style where he rambles instead of giving straight information. Today he talked about  "Friend Search"

Back in the Beach post I mentioned "Friend Search" and how you're able to download another person's character into your game. Terada reminds us that Friend Search is a THIRD network function among Multiplayer Mode and Online Multiplayer mode.  When developing this mode, it appears they were a bit hesitant in how this function would work, as shown in this exchange:

Sakai: Hey I want to put in a Passive Communication Mode!
Terada: Crazy! Ya Crazy Boy! (Yes in English!)
Sakai: It's very overseas-like. Is it bad or something?

So yes it was something like that. This Friend Search thing is kind of like Dragon Quest 9's tag mode, in a sense. So it transfers character data from nearby PSPs. You can just go by its literal translation as "Communications when you pass by others."

Terada says a popular PSP game that was recently released last week has this mode enabled. (I'll try to find out which game it was..)

Of course our main feature is this character. He is the president of some company.

A president of a company with white hair? Hmm who could this be…
Terada blurred the picture…

Sega vs Fansites

This week something uh interesting happened.  When ALL of the vision phone password were released, Ruby Eclipse, a GM from Phantasy Star Universe, was a bit peeved. It appears the community managers had plans to release the codes through blogs, and possibly magazines as a way to promote the game. This then generated a debate on three different sites as to the ethical nature on how it was leaked. Though things have kind of calmed down now, the process on how to install Japanese DLC into the US/EU version of the game was discovered. We're still awaiting official word if this workaround method will be supported by SoA.

But since you guys are playing Japanese DLC, expect a new category to the PSP2 Info at the sidebar which will list all DLC Missions conveniently in one place. In regards to Wandering Peddler, I'll complete the entire list in the 4th post later on.
