Future Gunner Adjustments

It seems many people weren't satisfied with the recent balance adjustments for Gunners. Sega is sorry for the disappointment this may have caused, as they felt they weren't sufficient enough in explaining the shifts in fighting style for Gunners.

Sega will however remain firm in their plans of keeping the following:

  • Gunners should still be able to fight, even without having to rely on S-Roll JA Bonus.
  • Gunners should be positioned as a class that focuses on close to mid-range combat.

While they were re-examining the effects of the recent update, they noted how difficult it was to maintain Perfect Keeper; how likely it was to get hit when fighting close to mid-range.

With the sentiments that the nerfs made a higher impact than the buffs, they decided on a course of action. The plan is to do readjustments to the Photon Arts, and relax the activation conditions for Perfect Keeper. However, please be forewarned that mid to long-distance damage may end up weaker. They'll discuss more details about these adjustments at a later time.

Here are some examples of close to mid-range fighting styles you can use:

  • (If enemies are in front)
    • Use Dead Approach to get closer and attack them with Satellite Aim. Draw them in with Reverse Tap, and attack them with Shift Period.
  • (If enemies are scattered around)
    • Use Reverse Tap to draw them in and attack them with Heel Stab/Shift Period.

These are just some examples on how you can play. You can also try them out after the adjustments.

  1. I wonder how much buff they'll give ….. there's no info when they'll do the adjustment? It didn't come with another free reset? lol

    And, isn't Gu always a close-mid range type since it's implemented? ._.

  2. Dear developers, reverse tap isn't as good as territory bursted zondeel and it doesn't give you full invulnerability. No I don't care about two dodge moves and powered up chain finish, because I can't use them properly and always relied on IF and ER after sroll.
    Please let me be mobile invincible autoaim ranger 2.0 once again, or I just couldn't complain that the game is cake and most PAs are useless.

  3. I could never get into gunner… I remember making a ranger just so I could try it, but ended up not liking gunner much(difficult for me to side-jump and didn't like the lack of range/AOE or the PAs being combos like melee weapons) and just stayed ranger. XD

    My friend really likes the play-style, though he seems to agree that the ranger's PAs are easier to use since you don't need a bunch of weapon palettes just for different PAs. I can understand why they did it though, since you need shift to do the jumps…

I Still like my gunner and I see this adjustment make me liking gunner more :3 I can now combo PA than just SRoll -> PA… but I agree the nerf is worse than the PA buff, I already did experiment with various class and concluded that gunner is at the bottom to maintain it's average DPS, and really depending on subclass Skills Multiplier… Zero Range is Okay, but High Time and Perfect Keeper is really hard to keep while the multiplier is just average…

  5. they probably want to really balance the game in aspect to PvP as well…

    though i really dont get how can they balance anything with Ranger's Weak Bullet

    1. …that is one of the stupider things I've heard. PSO2 tosses numbers around such that PVP would never be reasonable. I suppose you don't remember when clones were first implemented and did not scale. people were getting oneshotted almost constantly when a clone interrupt would pop. PVP would be like that without the "almost". and if you were to nerf the players such that such a thing wouldn't be that way, you'd kill everyone in PVE. sega isn't quiiiiiiite up to the task of setting seperate damage algorithms for PVP.

    2. I would have to agree with this. PvP in this game would be a gigantic joke, not to mention the balancing is completely off, for any class of that matter. The scaling is absolutely atrocious and only continues to increase.

    3. I am honestly glad PSO2 doesn't have PVP. For one, it could end up being like games like Grand Chase where they nerf characters who are "too strong" in PVP, and because they are too lazy/stubborn to separate the balances of PVP and PVE, it pretty much ruins you if you had that character and only did PVE. 🙁
      And yeah, the lag would be horrid.

    4. Or, you know, not be stupid and assume PvP stats have to be exactly the same as PvE.

      Just cut PvP damage to 0.1% or whatever. Turn those 50,000 Sakura End slices into 50 damage, and 300,000 Final Nemesis shots into 300 damage, and magically you don't have characters one-shotting each other!

      Note that I'm not that I'm saying PvP in PSO wouldn't be stupid.

    5. Also. You can keep staggering the clones forever (ground lock) with Melee JA and air lock them forever by launching them then use normal TMG attack. More! All-range grabbing weapon like WL 'd be like "fu*k your Attack, I'll just lock you up on infinity combo with grapple charge or holding current or other spin" same goes to Twin Dagger.

      If they use the same logic as clones, it'll be an epic fail system even the PVP dmg is reduced to 0.1% but if not, then PVP'll be full of Ra and Gu.

      but raid PvP with maze-liked map is another story though

    6. yes yes we all know how to deal with clones by now… presuming you're melee. how short people's memories seem to be, forgetting how obnoxious they were at the start when they tended to oneshot people if they got the first hit in. which is really funny to have people forget, what with how many people play attack-only builds so they can't handle being hit anyway.

      "not be stupid"? are you really going there? and are you seriously forgetting how sega keeps dealing with this stuff? perhaps you forget things like how furystance got nerfed shortly after subbing came in because rangers became "too powerful" with it? not a nerf applied when subbing it (which would have likely prevented ep2's entire "hunter is the best sub for anyone who isn't force because lolfurystance" problem), but a straight nerf to the skill, period, hurting hunter mains primrarily. and you think the same company who thinks like that would think of having seperate modifiers for pvp?

      I may be one to give sega more credit than most do, but let's keep our feet on the ground here, savvy?

    7. The issue of PvP would be a fluctuating uncontrollable latency, not the fully adjustable game mechanics.
      There are plenty of various humanoid nonclone characters in the game, and even toned down "fodder" types made for code Abyss that cast slower or telegraphed versions of techs.

      But who needs reason, lets chant the Sega mantra and blame an abstract publisher in all the dirty sins we could imagine.

  6. You know what they should have changed? SRoll JA to SRoll JA combo where consecutive JA after Sroll gets a smaller bonus in damage

  7. Whose advises are those? Using only Heel Stab is more than enough, and it hits Headshot most of the time if used in front of enemies. Btw I wish I could max all the S Roll JA skill though, those upper 2 skills for S Roll normal Atk are actually made for DoT type player(which never stop doing dmg even while dodging), in short, they make the S Roll Arts much more powerful (only if both skills are maxed) but is bad for player who aim only for hit&run.
